the woods of the flaming trees

lightly the breeze holds the melody
that flows forth from your lips
memorable words a parody
as smooth as crafted scripts
that by the red rays of the harvest moon
i allow to through me flow
caught by the mesmerizing tune
i take your hand and follow
into the woods of the flaming trees
as leaves our shoulders dust
awak’ning in me the chill of disease
your words are laced with rust
and with the onset of natures death
my soul froze to your plea
cold is the whisper on your breath
i retreat into woods misty

Retreat to sanctuary where only you possess the key and the locks are on the inside of the door. Flames can never melt nor burn this place of safety.

I like this a lot, it reminds me of how good I feel alone in the woods, something I really enjoy.

I was thinking as I arrived here this morning, how glad I am that there is Shadow's blog to go to, and then you pull this gem out of your hat.

Hmm, just because the opening bars of the old saw are familiar, doesn't mean it still has any life left, does it? And yet, there is always a deeper place to go to, away from the burning, the destruction, and into mist and green and peace. I really really like this.

A slightly new departure for you. I think you should follow it and see where it leads.

Geez, Shadow-the first half had me running again, tuggin my pants up to keep em on; only to find rust again. I swear to God I want to cry. It doesn't matter. I'll go anyway. I'm no stranger to the rain. ~rick

Sometimes - I just don't know what to say.

There is a let down of some sort as the words start out with enticing words. "follow into the woods".
Then the rust and death and frozen soul is not what was expected in the beginning of the walk into the woods.
See, you write so well that it is almost real for the reader.

I also love to walk alone in the woods but with so many people walking alone in the woods, why are the woods not crowded?
Lovely atmospheric poem.

I retreated into those woods this past weekend but it was pleasant and beautiful.

Wow. Haunting and yet comforting. Nature helping you see the lies in the "crafted scripts" so that your soul becomes frozen to the plea. Good work as always. I'm going to read down your blog a bit now to see if there is anything which will tune into my feelings today. There's usually something. Sorry I don't visit very much, but I'm always happy I've been :-)

Beware of what lures you to the woods. This is magnificent. I wasn't always a fan of poetry, but you burn such images into my mind I love it.

Yes, sometimes it's a little too easy to be lured in by sweet words. But then, nature always takes its course and eventually all is revealed. Beautifully written!
