almost is the kiss we shared
almost is the soul i bared
almost is the heat i feel
almost is this base appeal
of this most alluring scent
puts my senses in torment
reaching through the empty space
on these sheets of golden lace
almost is the appetizer
‘though our love is none the wiser
almost is the soul i bared
almost is the heat i feel
almost is this base appeal
of this most alluring scent
puts my senses in torment
reaching through the empty space
on these sheets of golden lace
almost is the appetizer
‘though our love is none the wiser

"Goodbye my almost lover" a broken heart for sure followed by the demise of expectation, allowing in the end a new begining. Sometimes shit just happens!
ReplyDeleteThe "almost" moments can be either a sweet, regretted loss or a saving grace.....
ReplyDeleteFYI - I amended my 55 to include a "Duckling Award".
PG
great 55 - just great. As a young man, though, I hated that word - almost. There were way too many 'almosts' as far as I was concerned - self confidence took a real beating.
ReplyDeleteI feel the " almost" can be breath taking, ALMOST

You and I must also love the same Song!!
"Almost" is such a powerful and can be a dissapointing word. Shadow, this was great!!
ReplyDeleteAh the almost lover, the one
ReplyDeleteto be forever dreamed upon.
That word almost is too powerful. Don't like it. Though your poem is mighty fine.
ReplyDeleteCome see me. I have something for you!
ReplyDeleteThere is no almost in how perfect this is. (Hugs)Indigo
ReplyDeleteAlmost is the temptation
ReplyDeleteGood to put the inspiration listed here... we all may have wondered! hehehe
ReplyDeleteI think we all must have that almost romance. As well as the one that got away... Its funny how every now and again they come into mind... the 'what if's' I suppose.
Nice piece!
Happy weekend!
Teri's comment is right - you do read this poem quickly, wanting to know what has happened to make things be almost, but not quite. It carried the melancholy beyond the end of the words though because we never find out. Did you end up with something real in the place where you ended up? Something better? Why was this only ever going to be almost?
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, Shadow, the 'almost lover'...the most bittersweet of all.
ReplyDeleteI also love that song!
have a lovely sunday~
~Calli
I've been away and busy with summer things, so had to spend quite a bit of time catching up here. Enjoyed every minute. BJ
ReplyDeletewhat a wonderful story... keep it up.
ReplyDeletekhaye=)
Almost is the appetizer...what a great line. It is just an appetizer with no meal to follow. Enjoyed this one! All the best- LL
ReplyDeleteThis sounds so Romantic. I really need to catch up with my Romantic vein again, reading some really loving books, almost tragic... You gave me a fine idea. I'm so lost in reality now that I almost forgot the Romantic me.
ReplyDeleteLove it, Shadow. Fits my life perfectly right now... :( Almost is no fun...But no regrets because there is always lessons to be learned, even in almost.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy Day!
Its good to see you and Larry writing lovely inspiring poetry together.
ReplyDeleteYou will have to write a bowling poem for our bowling newsletter
