Collective they stream
down the road like a swarm,
seeking ruin, with cries in the air.
Harm and destruction
secreting a chill
that swells to a violent cold dare.
……fragile the silence
they leave in their wake
‘mongst litter that blows in the breeze,
dark’ning the day
with destructive intent,
when hatred to ruin carries.

every friday, compose a short story of 55 words - no more, no less. if you want to join in the fun and games and give it a try...post your story and report to the boss G-Man
As usual, really nice. My first effort at a 55 is up as well.
ReplyDeleteFirst off I love the title of this piece. It sets the tone for when you read. You can picture exactly what kind of music fits this piece. Dark but awesome. (:

Strong fluid words in this one Shadow. Well done!
ReplyDeletePretty powerful 55 for such a beautiful spring day. Today I cherish the fact that I don't live in chaos much anymore. Peace and serenity are usually the order of the day.

again , i loved your poem , this above is the part that sparkled in soft silence inside my body .
Almost sounds like Woodstock.
ReplyDeleteThis was so cool! I felt the chaos in it.
ReplyDeleteExcellent - matches up to my day where we just began reading Fahrenheit 451 in class.
ReplyDeletewow. I'm speechless.
ReplyDeletestrong, very powerful 55!
ReplyDeleteA dark and serious piece. I hope you're safe.

You Rock The Planet!
Have a Kick Ass Week-End...
I like this picture a lot. The title shakes you up and prepares you for the rest.
ReplyDeleteYou've captured the essence of chaos with amazing descriptions. Reminded me of a crowd rioting, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.
ReplyDeleteMy 55 is Molten Words
Very nice, I am always blown away at your writing, be it 55 or 100, you are like a painter everything is very vivid. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYes ma'am I know that dead silence of noise well. We are creating more of it as we swarm through.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe it...I MISSED your 55?!! How on earth did that happen?
ReplyDeleteExcellent. And, yes, chaotic.
Shadow,
ReplyDeleteI leave and come back and you always surprise me with your sentimental poems.
I would like to choose one to post it on my blog during the month of April.

By the way my URL changed
This is chilling!
ReplyDeleteooooo... violins, without sax! ;)
ReplyDelete'' fragile the silence'' -what lovely imagery!
ReplyDeleteand the music to go with it!
I'm not sure that I fully grasped the image - I think I did the poem, though!
ReplyDeleteWhoa Shadow, this reminds me of some of the small town ladies I knew, and the teenage daughters they were training.
ReplyDeleteNice shadow. The melody of chaos isn't harmonious is it?
ReplyDeletevery powerful.. and in just 55 words.
ReplyDeletexx
Simply fantastic!
ReplyDeleteYou take the art of word-smithery to new heights!
oh yeah I knew,
ReplyDeleteI mean, well most
oh ya ya ya ya phan-TA-sy
THAT is not technically softball
(I have to really be at a field in real life and we have to throw actual balls right?)
I like the line:
ReplyDeleteFragile the silence
Shadow
ReplyDeletehmmm...the quiet wake that follows the storm
almost like gloating.
great image too!
~rick
"Fragile silence"--- beautiful combo. I imagined both scenarios: the volcanic eruption in Iceland and on a lesser scale, a swarm of killer bees. I know it's much deeper than that, but you have given me a few visuals.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully written as always!
as always, well executed. i found more than chaos, i found notes of spoken words meant to tear apart the music itself.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing quite so frightening as an angry mob bent on destruction. You captured both the before and after scenes perfectly!
ReplyDeleteVery well done.
ReplyDeletewhat craft you posess! thanks for sharing this powerful 55...and for leaving me thinking...
ReplyDelete44th comment.
ReplyDeleteHowdy! Decided to rejoin the party.
Wen I saw YOU back here, I could not resist being again a "part of" rather than "apart from"...ya know?
Guess I heard that drum beat all the way from SA
All is well, V.
