serenade of sorrow

i bow my head to the final note
as it drifts into darkening dusk,
while lingering in the air the scent
of your lips, sweet rose damask.
and the lines you traced on my body bare
when we danced on that moonlit hill,
tremble as the wistful breeze
envelops my presence still…

awash is the essence of defeat
in the passing of our time,
that sings a farewell to your absent soul
in the distance the bells start to chime.

  1. Know one can control what the heart feels. Better to dance in the hilltop memories than to sing in the song of defeat.

  3. there is not a single word I'd say could be taken off this poem. They fit so perfectly. And so does the pic. The rhythm...dark and light music and silence...all in one. You Goddess N#1...

  8. My opinion:

It gives the feeling of hitting the bottom and victory instead of defeat is close at hand.

I see dycotomy in the defeat word

and the bells chiming is signaling something new like the start of the next round or new time starting.

    I like it.

  11. when absence comes, and why it comes i don't know, and yet it seems it must, so when absence comes let the tears fall...
i think i'll go find me a hug...

  13. the lines you traced on my body bare. love this ..

this is very touching, I wept when I read that sings farewell to your absent soul in the distance the bells start to chime.

When I was a child and even now back home, the passing of someone is started and ended with the bells chiming.

    BLess you dearest Shadow..

  15. Your poems frequently remind me of songs I love. This one makes me think of "Possession" by Sarah McLachlan, for some reason.

  19. I'll be brief (maybe?). The same word I wish here, as laughingwolf was moved to use--EXQUISITE--as in exquisitely sad am I reading this. Even as I know well the bell signals the beginning of the new life. the better life, at the end of which there will be no discord, no mistrust, no deceit, no yearning, nor thought even--for the preparatory human condition.

Peace and Love for you, SHADOW!

  22. Beautiful.

I find it very often difficult to find fitting words to describe what I think and feel when I see your posts. Not easy to express it in English, but I do really like your poems and beautiful pictures that go with them.

  30. Shadow, the poem is lovely and sad. The beloved is gone and your memories are vivid. The bells say it is time to begin again, to gather in, get on with it. Thanks for a good read.

  40. Your poems are like
    walking alone
    on a deserted beach
    hoping for
    hoping for
    what you can not
    yet reveal
    for your self
    not a shell,
not a dead fish upond the Sand
not a family playing with their kids
    Solitude
    Crowds
    A spot to sit down
    to ...
    just look at the waves
