trust in me

it was by the muted candlelight
that i looked at you with new eyes,
the hair’s casual fall into your face,
shielding you from the pressures of life.
your lips so soft, gently curled in a smile
to an echo you solely could hear,
your skin with the etches of time displayed,
though to me this is but a veneer.

i’m engulfed by an urge to open this book
of thoughts that you keep deep inside,
to hear those whispers only you can hear,
to be filled by the dreams that your hide.
to see the sketches you keep concealed
as you say when they happen, i’ll know,
but i’d much prefer to support the idea
than be offered the finished rainbow.

i’d like to be there when the timeline extends,
maybe offer my love and my thoughts.
achievement is something that you measure by
yet the forming’s what gets me caught.
the range of your vision, the style of design
is what makes you who lies beside me,
give me a piece, just a crumb at a time,
please believe, when i say, trust in me…

  1. Oh my girl ... wonderfully written, as always. Communication - we all need and yearn for it. It's hard when the one to whom we've committed ourselves doesn't understand that - and doesn't share.

  2. Your best Love poem as far as I've been reading you. OH Dear Shadow how I love your words, without exception...
    But these two lines... WOW
'...but i’d much prefer to support the idea
than be offered the finished rainbow...'

  3. oh i really like this one...one story at a bok the book unfolds, so as not to scare you away and keep you coming back for more...

  4. Magnificent. Only a very strong relationship can lead to that kind of trust - of giving the most intimate thoughts and dreams.

  6. Being eager and hungry to hear what is so deep inside another is scary. It takes a long time for someone to be able to trust enough to share like that. This is a very lovely post. It gives me shivers really. I look at my hubby's sweet smile peeking out under his mustache and know it is for only me. The way you write is intimate and wondrous.

  9. Shadow, this is a poignant piece and I really like the second stanza, the images in it:

i’m engulfed by an urge to open this book
of thoughts that you keep deep inside,
to hear those whispers only you can hear,
to be filled by the dreams that your hide.
to see the sketches you keep concealed
as you say when they happen, i’ll know,
but i’d much prefer to support the idea
than be offered the finished rainbow.

  10. i often find when i read your poems that something you are saying is also stirring something i have said to myself but of course not this beautiful way, just snips of thoughts. its remarkably psychic in a way

  12. Shadow, these are exquisite words, all of them. But these sing to me most:

give me a piece, just a crumb at a time,
please believe, when i say, trust in me...

  13. This is a wonderful rhyme, not too rhythmic as to sit still...
and I love the tenderness you express, my favorite
achievement is something that you measure by
yet the forming’s what gets me caught."
as well as what dulce said.
I always know my favorite poems when I find myself saying, I wish someone would write like that for me. Thank you for writing! This one is very grounded.

  14. Yessss Shadow, it is becoming difficult to know what to say to you. I've used every superlative I know, even borrowed from others', and here I am, looking at ideas and rainbows.

Ideas change , but so do rainbows. Never has one stayed where I went to find it. Maybe one day..................

Your writings have been scripted by the fingers of angels...and are timeless.

  35. "achievement is something that you measure by yet the forming’s what gets me caught."

You have very deep thoughts in what you write that is what keeps me coming back to your blog. This one seems a bit different than what you usually write for some reason.

"i’d much prefer to support the idea than be offered the finished rainbow." This part also stood out to me by saying so much with so little.

    Great work!

  36. Shadow- funny how candle light is always muted but says so much. I don't think so much of the one who will trust but the responsibility on the one who offers. Weird, huh? ~rick

  37. Yes shadow
if the question was posed to me of course I trust you. You are one of integrity.
You don't have to tell me I can before I loose all skepticism.
Because of your integrity, all of your words, are 'your word' without having to give them to me.

Shadow I never show gratitude toward your kind gesture towards me. The wiping clean my debts of disrespect and person to person insults taken as dishonor.

I did not understand went went on that day. A time when I was reading posts (as many as I could) as fast as i could and still being able to give my perceived conclusion meaning.

I paid little attention to the comments. Knowing now what you did, I feel in debt.

Knowing now what I do, before my stay as a guest ends I need to apologize for disturbing the peace of your community and apologize to the members of your community.

Just as I misjudged Uncle Tree (he has more integrity than I)
When in a heart numbed painful rant of a post, followed it with a plee to stop "mean spirited" posts (which none were, all light hearted, possibly even offers of helping me put together a presentable residence as my current presentation is sub par)

Even though there have been NO haunting after your good will....
I still read offers of condolence for my sorrow.
A compassionate community, whose members earned my respect without demanding it, appear to me to have also earned my trust.

    forgive the ramble please

in regards to your post, you have my trust. being able to share the thoughts (fleeting random as well as deep) many or all the constantly churning thoughts
of which the majority aren't birthed by speech

is not something I take lightly. But is something I desire to do

    Have a wonderful week!

  39. This is one of your ultimate bests, absolutely. There is a 'power' in this one.

It's so supportive and loving and the way love should be.

    Bravo, dear Shadow!

  42. I've sat here reading, re-reading and re-re-reading this one. The words just keep pulling me in.

"... achievement is something that you measure by, yet the forming’s what gets me caught." Now that is just perfection ... marrying acceptance with the desire to give. I love it.

    xx Jos
